   A.   Selecting the right down the hole hammer

 

Choosing the right hammer is largely determined by hole size and type of rock formation. Ideally, the size of the hammer should match the required hole

Mining, quarry, road building, well hole drilling, blasting, landslide prevention, dam reinforement, anchoring, geothermal, hydrology, etc.

 

 

 

B.   Simple methods of trouble shooting of DTH hammers

2The external cylinder cracks.The external cylinder is worn out excessively when normally used, and after the normal use dimensiton is exceeded, it fractures normally.Check the using worn condition of the external cylinder frequently, if the normal use dimension has been exceeded (Please see the specific statement in this manual), and replace the external cylinder decisively and accordingly.
Beaten by larger external force or grinded by machines.It is forbidden to beat the external cylinder with strong external force, such as a sledge hammer,or to be grinded by machines.
Improper torque is forced to applied when it is disassembled or assembled.When it is disassembled with a chain tongs,be sure to apply proper torque and use sharp chain tongs.
Welding is carried out on the external cylinder.Welding on the external cylinder is forbidden.
3Welding on the external cylinder is forbidden.Applied torque and axial compression are much too large.Reduce propulsion and cornering force.
The drive chuck is worn out excessively when normally used, and after the normal use dimensiton is exceeded, it fractures normally.Check the using worn condition of the drive chuck frequently, if the normal use dimension has been exceeded (Please see the specific statement in this manual), and replace the drive chuck decisively and accordingly.
4The hammer does not work.Drill pipe thread and the top sub thread do not match with each other.Select correct drill bit models to match the hammer model.
Internal parts are damaged.Dissemble the hammer, examine if the spare parts are damaged including the piston,the air distributor, the internal cylinder and the guided sleeve. Purchase new spare parts to replace the old ones.
The external cylinder is deformed to become a ellipse caused by wedling, burning, beating and grinded, which leads to the internal parts and the external bylinder are not contentric, as a result, the hammer sticks and fails to work.Dissemble the hammer, examine if the spare parts are damaged including the piston,the air distributor, the internal cylinder and the guided sleeve. The external cylinder is forbidden to be welded, burned, grinded or beaten. Purchase new spare parts to replace the old ones.
Foreign material enters the inside of the hammer, the hammer sticks and fails to work.Dissemble the hammer, clear the blockage,and clean the internal spare parts. If the internal spare parts of the hammer are worn out or damaged by the foreign material,please replace the relevant spare parts decisively to avoid further damagement.
5Pressure drop of the hammer appears.The internal spare parts of the hammer are in lack of lubricant; under that condition, the parts rub against each other without lubricant and are damaged, thus pressure drop is caused.Examine if there is lubricant inside the oiler. Add lubricant in time to make sure the internal spare parts of the hammer obtain full lubrication, and narrow the wear gap between parts.
The fit gap of the internal spare parts of the hammer are increased gradually because of lasting use, which leads to air leakage and pressure drop.When each spare part are worned out when using wear dimention of each spare part exceeds valid using dimention,changing a relevant part is recommended.
6Drill bit falls into a well.When assembling the drill bit into a hammer, the snap ring is missing.Do remember to load the snap ring when assemble the drill bit.
The snap ring model is not matched with the drill bit or the hammer model.Do select the correct snap ring model matching with the drill bit model and the hammer model.
The method or the direction of snap ring loading is incorrect.Please install the snap ring correctly according to different models.
The snap ring is used excessively, which leads to damage or fracture.The snap ring is easy to damage. Please replace the old ones at proper time.
7The drill bit, the drive chuck and the O-ring fall into a well together.The drill tools rotate reversely inside the hole and the drive chuck is unscrewed , which leads to the drill bit and the drive chuck falling off as a whole. The drill tools are forbidden to rotate reversely inside a hole.
The drive chuck thread is worn out.The drive chuck thread is worn out.Examine. 
8The whole hammer falls into a well.The top sub fractures.Examine if the drill pipe thread and the top sub thread are matched and also fit closely when they are connected.
It rotates reversely when drilling, and the top sub is unscrewed.The drill tools are forbidden to rotate reversely inside a hole.
